Classes begin Oct. 3rd, and are held once a week, each Friday, from 10 am to 1 pm in Aula 2.5 – 2° Piano, Palazzo Venturi (via Verdi, 25). The course will consist of 10 sessions, ending December 19th.

We will be translating short short stories and poems taken from ULRICH BAER, 110 STORIES: New York writes after September 11, New York University Press, 2002.
Requirements for completion of this module:
- full, revised portfolio of translations (weeks 1 through 9) due December 19, 2008;
- final written exam on December 19, 2008
- oral exam: the exam will be testing your study of the course text: JEREMY MUNDAY, Translation Studies. Theories and applications. Routledge 2001. You are free to take your oral exam for this course at any “appello” you choose but NO LATER THAN FRBRUARY 2010. If you do not take your oral by that date, you will have to REPEAT your written translation exam.

Students who do not meet the 70% minimum attendance requirement OR the minimum homework turn-in requirement will also study for their oral exam: MASSIMILIANO MORINI, La traduzione. Teorie Strumenti Pratiche, Sironi Editore 2007, and will have to discuss it in American English.
Students who do not meet the 70% minimum attendance requirement AND the minimum homework turn-in requirement will also study for their oral exam: the Introduction, plus 5 essays - one from each section (1900s-1930s; 1940s-1950s; 1960s-1970s; 1980s; 1990s) – of LAWRENCE VENUTI ed., The Translation Studies Reader, Routledge 2000.
Students must carry all books studied on the day of the oral exam. You will not be allowed to take your oral exam if you do not have ALL the relevant books with you.
Official grades can ONLY be registered during official examination sessions.
